    Grown-ups' corner

Type in this week's spelling words. Your child looks at them, then takes a test: each word flashes up, hides, and they write it from memory. A second round fills in missing letters.

Pasting a numbered list from a school letter or WhatsApp works too. Up to 30 words.

    Tips for tricky spellers

    • Little and often beats one long session. A few minutes a day works best.
    • Ask them to say the word slowly and count the sounds before it hides.
    • For tricky bits that phonics doesn't explain (like ie in believe), make up a silly saying together: "never believe a lie".
    • Spot the word inside a word: there's a hen in when, an ear in heard.
    • The tricky words from each test are saved below the results, so you can focus on those next time.
